The #1 reason people do not reach a goal is because they slack off part-way, and allow their old habits to kick back into full gear. A goal is something that you strive toward, and in doing so, will make you into a better person. If you have goals but consistently fail to reach them, stick to these 7 principles so that you won't lose sight of your goal, and fall back into your habitual, undesired way of life:

1) Get an Accountability Buddy
Having someone else to make sure you stay on track is vital to keep you pushing progress and constantly achieving success. Sometimes staying accountable to ourselves isn't enough because we can get away with things without any consequences. When you have someone else you have to report your progress to, suddenly you'll find yourself "making things happen."

2) Track Your Results
Humans are very result-oriented. Write down and keep track your results. Look at your statistics often for whatever your goal is so that you can see the improvement that you're making (and be motivated to keep going) or see the areas that are in need of improvement (and make the required changes).

3) Realize the "Why"
There are usually reasons behind a goal that ignite the fuel and push you to succeed. This may be as simple as realizing why you want the goal. When you create a goal, write down at least 5 reasons for why you want your goal. These points will be what will drive you to make the goal come true. They will help push you through the tough times and make you persevere to achieve ultimate success in the end.

4) Create Incentive for Reaching Your Goals
You can also create other (physical) incentives for reaching your goal. One technique I've come across is to give someone a certain amount of money to hold on to (eg. $250.00). If you make the goal by the date you set, you'll get the money back and can "spoil" yourself with it however you want; if you don't make it, the money would be donated to a charity of your choice. If you created further incentive for you to achieve your goal, you'll do everything you can to make sure it becomes reality.

5) Reward Yourself for Your Progress

Create mini-milestones along the road to your goal and reward yourself for making it to these points. You'll be motivated by the reward to keep pushing yourself toward reaching the ultimate goal, you'll notice that you're making progress in the right direction, and you'll be able to measure this progress and see how much further you have to go to reach your goal. Often, people lose sight of their vision when they think of how massive their goal or fantasy is. Create rewarded "mini-goals" to help stay on track.

6) Analyze
Periodically, during the time it takes to reach your ultimate goal, take time to analyze, or reflect, upon three things: (1) What you are doing? (2) What's working? (3) What's not working? After you've answered these questions, make the necessary changes that will help you reach your goal faster.

7) Enjoy the Process
Your life is happening now! Yesterday will never come again, so instead of always focusing your attention on your hopes and dreams of the future, remember to enjoy the process and the life you're going through now. The more you currently enjoy yourself, the less resistance you will have in the pursuit of your goal.

Aiming high in life should be natural; it's aspiration. Achieving your goals, however, is a totally different story. The moment you start following these principles, you will be on the road to success and well on your way to reaching your goals!
